Benbrook piano student, Jose Q., scored a 99 in the Level 1 Theory Examination organized by the Fort Worth and the Texas Music Teachers Associations. With this score, Jose will receive an achievement medal in the Spring. The event took place on Saturday, November 6 at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Several students from different teachers in the greater Fort Worth Area participated in this event. Students in Level 1 category are required to master basic music-literacy concepts such note identification, notation, intervals, rhythm, basic music vocabulary, analysis, and ear training. Jose used Theory Time: Workbook Series - Theory Fundamentals Grade One to prepare for this examination. 

The purpose of the Theory Test is to evaluate SA members’ musical knowledge of and the ability to apply theory, aural, and musicianship concepts across a broad musical spectrum. The Whitlock Theory Tests are named in honor of Dr. E. Clyde Whitlock. Dr. Whitlock is remembered for being a charter member of TMTA, a distinguished music educator, and adjudicator. Each year the TMTA Theory Committee prepares tests for levels 1-12. Students enrolled in school grades 1-12 may take these tests in the fall or spring. Local Associations administer the tests in a professional atmosphere. The Student Affiliate Theory Syllabus and Student Manual specifies the content of the tests.

Four students of the Zion Piano Studio participated in the 2021 Spring Theory TMTA Theory Examination coordinated by the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association. Janea G. (Level 4), Saifullah B. (Level 7), Sameer B. (Level 8), and Adil B. (Level 11) took their examinations from February 7th-21st, 2021. Due to Covid-19 protocols, students took their examinations in our studio or at their homes. We expect to receive their test results by the end of the Spring.

On Saturday, December 19 of 2020, Zion piano students performed in a virtual recital presented on Zion Piano Studio's Facebook page and YouTube Channel. The Recital showcased the work that the students did throughout the Fall semester. A total of 20 students performed in the recital. They represented a diversity of levels and age groups. The repertoire performed varied from exploratory exercises to advance repertoire and seasonal compositions.

The recital was divided into four sections. First, the presentation of the students who participated in the Fall Festival organized by the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association. Second, the presentation of the students who participated in the Original Composition Contest also organized by the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association. Third, the presentation of the students who prepared pieces for the Hymn Festival organized by the Fort Worth Piano Teaches Forum. Fourth, the presentation of the students who prepared pieces for the virtual recital only.
