This guide was designed to help parents and students get the appropriate materials to start piano lessons at Zion Piano Studio.

Instrument

Students will need access to a musical instrument for daily piano practice. An acoustic piano is desired, but some digital pianos are acceptable. Families and new students should consult the Studio for advice on piano purchases.

Textbooks

Students will need access to textbook materials for lessons and daily practice. Depending on the student's level, families may need to purchase a music literacy book, a lesson book, and a performance book.

Notebook

Families should get a notebook to write homework assignments and other important information. Students should bring their notebook to the lesson each week.

Metronome

Students should download a free metronome app to be used in daily practice sessions. Students can purchase a traditional or digital metronome if desired.

Recording Device

Students should have access to a recording device for homework assignments. Apps like iPhone's voice memo or camera are perfectly acceptable as recording devices.

Three Basic Things Anyone Needs to Start Playing the Piano

Sunday, April 5, 2020 by Jose Quesada | Piano 101

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10, KJV)

Very often new students call into our studio with the desire to start piano lessons, but are completely unaware of the basic things that are needed to start the journey. We prepared the following guide with the three basic things anyone needs to start playing the piano.

1. A Piano

Having a piano might be obvious for some, but frequently new students want to begin piano lessons without having an instrument at home. An acoustic piano such as the Yamaha Upright Piano or a digital one such as the Yamaha P125 are our recommendations for a first reliable piano to buy. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

2. A Piano Instructor

Learning the piano requires proper guidance. Our recommendation is to get in contact with one of our qualified piano teachers for in-person or online lessons. A qualified piano teacher will guide you through the best curriculum for you, and it can also help you get the basic needs to start playing the piano right away. You can also learn from online tutorials, or through self-teaching materials with certain limitations.

3. A Piano Method Book

If you hired a qualified instructor, he or she will tell you which method book to buy. If you are teaching yourself or your child to play the piano, you may want to start with a traditional piano method book such as Faber Piano Adventures or Piano Town.

Playing the piano could be one of the most beneficial activities you and your family can do; however, it needs to be done correctly. Proper training from qualified instructors with the right instrument and learning materials are key for success. Let us help you meet your goals. Enroll now in one of our lessons.

The Zion Piano Studio is a Christ-centered piano academy, founded and directed by Dr. José Pablo Quesada and Dr. Won Yong Lee, with main operations in the city of Benbrook, Texas. We offer private lessons in piano, music theory, and music history. Lessons are combined with performances and other events organized by the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association. We support the City of Benbrook through local organizations and our own ministry. We foster Christianity worldwide through Christ Church Fort Worth, Jews for Jesus, the Daystar Television Network, and the Assemblies of God World Missions.
